Among Champions

Emcee Brett de Hedt at Department of Education event

Brett has been master of ceremonies for many Department of Education events including the Schools-Industry Champions Lunch held at the sunsoaked Glasshouse in Melbourne on October 18.

The event focussed on creating more work-based learning opportunities for students seeking vocational opportunities in years 11 and 12. The lunch brought together principals, careers advisors, members of Local Learning and Employment Networks and Head Start members along with one vital group - employers. Myer, Coles, Ford and Multiplex among the employers seeking solutions to their recruitment crises and the opportunity to create a generation of professionals.

Brett emceed the event which included keynote speeches and a panel session. He was also reunited him with several VET Champions who he trained as public speakers some years back. These are younf people who took a vocational - as opposed to university - approach to career building and now speak to schools and employers about their experience.

Brett - who himself chose a vocational path - is a familiar sight in this sector and had the rare compliment of several attendees recalling gags he’d used at the 2021 edition of the lunch. Who knew that they were actually listening?
